Duration: 45 mins including Q&A

Join Kira Godoroja-Prieckaerts, Kenneth E Tyler Assistant Curator, in conversation with Clare Jackson, Artistic Director/CEO, Megalo Print Studio and Gallery.

In this talk, Kira and Clare will share insights into the working relationship between artists and master printers, focusing on the exhibition Proofs & Processes: The Kenneth Tyler Collection and examples from contemporary Australian print studio practice.

Proofs & Processes: The Kenneth Tyler Collection features works on paper by six icons of Abstraction and Pop art. Helen Frankenthaler, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, James Rosenquist and Frank Stella all created works in collaboration with Kenneth Tyler, master printer and director of Tyler Graphics (located at Mount Kisco, New York from 1986 to 2001). At Tyler Graphics, the traditional, the new and the unconventional converged to generate processes that produced some of the most dynamic prints of the 20th century. Artists worked with Tyler and his team of skilled collaborators to realise ambitious projects that pushed American printmaking into a new realm of material innovation and excellence.

Clare Jackson is an artist, printmaker, and educator living on Ngunnawal Ngambri Country. She has been a dedicated member of the print community since she graduated from Printmedia and Drawing at ANU School of Art in 2013. Her work has been featured in shows around Australia, including as a finalist in the Fremantle Print Prize and Peebles Print Prize. Clare’s awards include the Early Career Printmaker Award at Inkmasters Cairns, and Highly Commended in the M16 Drawing Prize in 2015 and 2021. Clare has undertaken residencies at BigCi Wollemi National Park, The Estonian Printing Museum, The Art Vault Mildura, Vermont Studio Center USA, and Lancaster Press Fiji. Through Clare’s work at Megalo Print Studio she has printed for artists such as Wiradjuri-Scottish woman April Phillips, Ngen’giwumirri man Kieren Karritpul, Patsy Payne, Omar Musa, and Kuku Midigi man Arone Meeks.
